Colouring Wood Slice - Mushrooms

The design outline is printed directly to the timber and provides guidelines for colouring with markers, pencils or paints.

Size:

The wood slice will be between 10 and 12 cm diameter (approx 4-5") and 1 cm (3/8") thick.

A few notes on colouring techniques:

Markers:

Coloured markers are really effective for colouring as the ink is flows freely and fills in the lines but does not cross or mark the lines at all.  This makes for a very clean and sharp appearance.  Sometimes choosing colours can be a bit difficult as the colour can be a bit different on wood than on paper.  Sometimes the ink will initially seem dark or patchy in places but when the ink dries (about 5 - 20 mins) it tends to look more even and lighter.

Pencils:

Pencils work best when they are very sharp.  Pencils are fantastic for more detailed work such as shading.  

Watercolour paint:

Watercolour paints with a fine brush are very effective.  Like coloured markers, watercolour paints tend to stay within the bounds of the lines and do not lessen the darkness of the lines.

Acrylic paint:

Acrylic paints are more difficult than watercolour as they can cover the lines.  They can however result in a more vibrant colour.
